Head of Research Department Dynamics of Complex Fluids and Interfaces, Helmholtz Institute Erlangen-Nürnberg for Renewable Energy (HI ERN)

  • Development of simulation and modelling techniques for printing and coating processes for thin film production to enable optimised production of solar cells and electrocatalytically-active films
  • Modelling and simulation of structure formation processes during printing, drying and post-processing addressing the following aspects:
    • Wetting and spreading of liquids, dispersions or emulsions by means of thin-film equations and mesoscale simulation methods
    • Rheological models of highly-filled dispersions
    • Statistical mechanics of the dynamic evolution of interactions between the building blocks (molecules and nanoparticles) which determine thin-film rheology via aggregation and self-organisation
    • Heat and mass transfer coupled to structure formation processes during deposition and drying including the important issue of crack formation
    • Effects of post-processing on defect states in various environments
