Chair of Biochemistry

  • Analysing genetic, molecular, biochemical and physiological adaptations of crop plants (primarily barley and potatoes) to periods of dry and hot weather.
  • Investigating tropical crop plants that have adapted to heat (primarily cassava) and deciphering their adaptation strategies
  • Using biotechnology to optimise domestic and tropical crop plants to secure yield under the conditions of expected climate change (increased concentrations of carbon dioxide, periods of dry and hot weather)
